Step 2 - Attach to your wall

Where to place:

  • Think about high traffic areas people are likely to pass through, like hallways and open-plan rooms.
  • If you have pets, make sure you install your motion sensors in areas they don’t have access to.
  • To avoid false alarms, motion sensors should be installed facing away from windows, out of direct sunlight, and away from heat pumps or air vents.
  • Motion sensors should be installed 2.1 metres from the floor to allow the best angle for monitoring the room. Use the measuring tape provided as a guide.

Install:

  1. Stick the provided tape measure to the wall where you want to place your motion sensor. The marking at 2.1m if the height you should install your motion sensor for the best coverage.
  2. Clean the wall area with the wipes provided and allow it to dry. Then peel off the adhesive backing and press the sensor firmly into place.
Important - if you are on a Professional Response plan, make sure you contact Alarm Watch on 0800 125 276 before testing your alarm, to ensure a security guard isn't sent by mistake.
  3. Test your motion sensor by arming your Morepork and then triggering the alarm. Tap the padlock icon on your control panel’s home screen, or in the Morepork app. Select ‘Arm Away’. You’ll need to wait 60 seconds for your Morepork to arm, then you can trigger the motion sensor by moving around in front of it. If your alarm sounds, you’ve installed the sensor correctly. You can disarm your Morepork by entering your user code on the control panel.
  4. Repeat these steps for any other motion sensors.

About your motion sensor

Motion sensors detect movement and have a range of 18kg at 9m. They are ideal for areas you want to monitor but not allow visual access to, like bedrooms. They’re also useful in places where people might move through and you already have a video camera in place, like a living space.
